But this is really about Soft Sunday Sounds. Thank you 100.3 for sharing with us probably one of the most embarrassing LDS traditions: LDS music.
Now don't get me wrong. I love the hymns, they're wonderful, and there are even some very good LDS songs are very inspiring (who hasn't survived their mission listening to the seminary video cds?). But listening to Soft Sunday Sounds has opened a whole new door to LDS music.
One the way to Church this morning we heard one woman warning us about the trend of being cynical and how the world is full of dark eyes filled with anger, green eyes of envy and some eyes that are just blue. (maybe I missed the point of her song, am I being cynical right now?)
One the way home we heard this gem:
I am a family man
I traded in my mustang for a minivan
This is not what I was headed for when I began
This was not my plan
I am a family man
This is not what I was headed for when I began
This was not my plan
I am a family man
I couldn't hold the laughter in after the second line. It may or may not have had something to do with the fact that Craig is the proud owner of the '66 Mustang. I told him that this song could be a foreshadowing of his future.
But seriously - these lyrics! Where do the come from?
Have you heard any Sunday Sounds that were just too cheesy to be true lately?

I have heard of Sunday Sounds and listened once or twice - I prefer to listen to KLove though - they might not believe exactly what we believe as members of the church but it is really good music - and most of it goes with what we believe.
You caught my thought waves. I was listening to Soft Sunday Sounds while getting ready for church and more than once...well, probably more than 5 times...I thought, "Really? Really? Who thinks of these things?" Seems like there's a lot a cheese and a lot of whine! Gotta love them!
Oh, thank you for saying aloud what I've been thinking for years. I was just reminiscing today about being in Utah on Sundays and getting to have the weekly snort fest. I agree with Somerset; lots of cheese and whine!
Okay, this is awesome. "And the wishes, and the fishes, and the dishes spread out on the counter." Seriously, who is writing these lyrics?
Even the instrumental numbers can seem cheesy. There are just some of the hymns that don't fare well performed as a country song.
I can't think of any song in particular...I don't listen to that station for any long period of time, usually just to and from church (and here in Orem, that means a grand total of about 3-4 minutes every Sunday). But I know what you're talking about, and I totally agree. Some songs are awesome, but most are just...what was that? Cheese and whine? Oh, YEAH!
