This weekend we went down to one of our favorite places, New Bern and the Tryon Palace.  We went there in Spring for the Tulip Festival and when we heard about the MumFest in the Fall we were really excited to go back again.  We assumed that the Mumfest would be a lot like the Tulip Festival, pretty much walk around Tryon Palace gardens and look at the fall flowers:

Listen to the drum and fife music from the  1700's
(New Bern was the original capital in NC back before the US was even born - so there is a lot of revolutionary history and events)

But it turns out MumFest is more than just that:
They had a huge street fair with tons of booths and food all around, bands, dancers, wrestling matches, bmx bikers, dog shows . . . .

They even had a civil war campsite set up for you to look around.

It was awesome!

We loved the pumpkin patch they had set up around a 150 year old church and 300+ year old graveyard:

That is one old tree -
and those baby pumpkins in the background are resting on tombstones.

Old, old tombstone - probably from the 1700's (one near it was 1724)

That's one of the coolest things about New Bern, it's always giving you more than you expect. We really had a great time at MumFest and can't wait to go back next year.

I've been thinking about you and your husband ever since last Sunday. Isn't Elder Cook awesome?!
